Yarn Along: Drop Stitch Wings

I'm linking up with Ginny for this week's Yarn Along.

(Sorry about the horrible lighting!)

Knitting: Drop Stitch Cowl
Yesterday I went to Michaels Craft Store to buy buttons for a baby cozy that I've been working on. They didn't have what I wanted but then I spotted this AMAZING yarn on the end of the aisle. Well, I had to use my 40% off coupon for something, right? And that is how this cowl came to be.
Pattern: Drop Stitch Cowl by Abi Gregorio (free on Rav)
Yarn: Premier Yarns Isaac Mizrahi Craft in Colorway East End (Must be brand new because it's not even on Rav yet!)

Also Knitting: Baby Sunnyside
I'm still working on my baby cardigan but I'm getting very close to finishing! Maybe if I hadn't been distracted by the above yarn I'd be done by now!

Yarn Along: Timber Rail Pattern GIVEAWAY

I'm linking up with Ginny for this week's Yarn Along.

Reading: Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman
This is one of those audiobooks that has me looking forward to my daily commute. I'm on the last CD and I don't want the story to end! The book flip-flops between 2 characters: Beatty, a single mother trying to survive in Tasmania in the 1930s, and Beatty's granddaughter, Emma, a ballerina, portrayed in present day. I love historical fiction books that go back and forth between past and present like Orphan Train or the Baker's Daughter

Knitting: Timber Rail Capelet
I have been working on this capelet pattern for months and it's finally done! I'm so excited to have a pattern that I can call my own. I want to thank my friend and LYS owner, Kathy, for nudging me to write this pattern down on paper.

And now, about the pattern:
The Timber Rail Capelet is knit on size 35 needles so you'll have a FO in no time!
Project is knit flat from the bottom up then sewn …

Wednesday Wake-Up

November 19th, 2014 at 6:01 a.m.
The snow is flying again this morning. I took this shot on the road right by our farm. I could hear the combines out in the field but I couldn't see them! I'll be curious to see if the corn is all down when I get home tonight. Gun deer season starts this weekend. I imagine hunters want the corn down by then so they can spot the deer better.

Yarn Along: Me Before Sunnyside

I'm linking up with Ginny for this week's Yarn Along.

Knitting: Baby Sunnyside
This baby cardigan is a KAL with Tanis Fiber Arts. The KAL ended last Friday but, clearly, I didn't finish on time. Oh well. Nothing to stress out about. The cardigan is finally starting to look like a cardigan and I just love how cute it is. I'll be keeping this one for myself. Into the hope chest for "someday".

(Just Finished) Reading: Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
This is one of those audiobooks that I can't stop thinking about. A vibrant young man is in an accident that leaves him a quadriplegic. He decides he wants to go to Dignitas (a Swiss group that will help him end his life) but promises his parents that he will wait 6 months to do so. They hire a caregiver, Lou, who makes it her mission to change his mind.

In 2005 I suffered a neck injury and came milli…

Operation Christmas Child - My Shoebox is Packed!

Each year my church is a drop-off site for Operation Christmas Child. Have you heard of it? The concept is simple. Pick a gender: boy or girl. Pick an age group: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Then pack a shoebox full of gifts for that child. After the shoeboxes are collected, Samaritan's Purse delivers them to needy children all over the world. (Last time my box went to Malaysia.) Once the shoeboxes are handed out, the children are also given the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ.

Here's a glimpse at what I packed into this year's shoebox for a 10-14 year old girl.

I wanted to include some practical items along with a few fun things. This shoebox full of gifts may be the first gift that my child has ever received. Doesn't that just give you goosebumps? I hope she likes what I picked out for her. I sure had fun doing it!

Get out the vote!

Remember to exercise your right to vote today. It's a privilege and a freedom that each and every one of us should take advantage of. Wisconsin has a big governor's race so I imagine we'll have a great turnout at the polls today.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to being able to watch TV or listen to the radio without hearing all of the attack ads. A friend of mine is running for state senate and it's really hard to hear the horrible lies that have been said about her.
